Skill development has alway been the heart and soul of Steady Buckets and we take a lot of pride in helping young players improve. Skill workouts blend a combination of ball handling, shooting, strength training, speed and agility training, basketball IQ, and 1 on 1 games.
Drills are designed to maximize repetition of the games fundamentals. Players are encouraged to leave their comfort zones and train a style where everyone is expected to mess up a lot. This works for advanced players to up their level and makes and gym welcoming to beginners as it is clear that no one is expected to be perfect.
Coach Macky leads an innovative approach to shooting, examining the jump shot from physical, mental, emotional and spiritual perspectives. Rather than tell players how to shoot, we encourage them to experiment and open their minds to new possibilities that they hadn’t considered. Success is defined as Visualization plus Execution, ensuring a successful shot is purposeful and consistent. Players are encouraged to spend more time and effort visualizing their shot and analyzing their execution, in an effort to gain self awareness.
These practices are for our Young Leaders Only. Young Leaders learn team concepts and compete against outside competition.
The program is intended for serious players who are striving to play high school basketball and beyond and looking for either an alternative to travel basketball or a supplement to it.
Young Leaders train and compete as a team as well as volunteering at our AYBL games as coaches and refs. They attend Thursday Leadership Lessons on Zoom and are encouraged to be recognizable amd welcoming faces in our gyms, leading by example and giving back to the SB community.
While these teams are invite only, everyone in our community is welcome to try out. If you’re interested in our young leaders program call Coach Dylan at 1 (917) 862-8167.
Our All Youth Basketball League provides hundreds of players a chance to learn and compete in our in house leagues. Teams are coached and games are officiated by “near peer” Young Leaders, creating an all youth environment. We run three separate leagues in the Fall, Winter and Spring and we always do our best to add players mid season.
